These days, creating a website is actually pretty easy. With all the platforms available online, it can be quite simple to get a website live. But just because you’ve created a website on your own doesn’t mean it’s going to do anything for you.

It’s Ineffective

Tons of business owners think they need a website with a simple design to make navigation easy and not confuse visitors. But many go overboard in the simplicity department, and go so far as to make the website totally ineffective. Sure, a simple layout or design element may be ok, but it’s got to be effective. It’s important to plan a smart marketing strategy and build a website that converts visitors into customers.

It Uses a Standard Template

The majority of people are not experienced web designers, but they still think they can build a fantastic website using free website platforms and templates. The problem with this is that they weren’t developed with your brand identity in mind. Your website needs to accurately reflect your specific brand and image, which isn’t something you can easily do with a standard template.

It’s Not Search Engine Optimized

You could have the best-looking site in town, but if no one knows about it, what’s the point? Your website absolutely needs to appear in the top listings on Google and other major search engines in order for people to be able to find you. This can be a toughie, especially for websites that are new and built by an amateur. Make sure your website is SEO-optimized, which will probably require the help of a professional web designer.

It Doesn’t Focus on a Call to Action

So you’ve managed to get hoards of people visiting your website. Great! But now what? Have you highlighted a specific call to action? Are you telling your visitors what to do next? Brining people to your site is one thing, but turning them into paying customers is another. This is where a call to action comes into play. But don’t just shove it in the bottom corner in tiny font. You’ve got to highlight it so visitors need to make zero effort to see it and understand what it is you want them to do.

Building a website is tough, as is marketing it. Your best bet is to leave it in the hands of an expert web designer who does this for a living and actually knows what he’s doing.
