Designing a website and deciding exactly what to put on it isn’t exactly the most straightforward process in the world. In order to tell visitors why they’re there and what your site is all about within a few short seconds can be a daunting challenge.
It’s absolutely critical that not only do you include all the necessary attributes and components on your site, but that they’re placed appropriately and organized well so that people can easily find what it is they’re looking for easily and quickly.
While you may think you’ve hot the nail on the head with your content, there are common features that visitors browsing the web and all its sites tend to have the most trouble finding.
1. Enough Information About You
People like to do business with those that they like and trust. But if visitors to your site can’t find enough information about you, they’ll be less inclined to do business with you. Believe it or not, but your About page is probably one of the most visited site on your website. But many times it’s the one page that’s neglected. That’s why you want to make sure that this page has as much detail about you as possible so visitors know exactly who they’re dealing with.
Make sure to include the following about you:
- Why you’re different from the competition
- Why you understand your visitors
- Who you are
- Facts about your company
- Images or videos to make the page more engaging
2. Your Social Media Accounts
Social media is a key component to marketing, which is why you need to use it. While your first impression is that you want your visitors to stay on your site for as long possible, a link out to your social media accounts is imperative.
It can help give you a more human presence in a digital world. It can give potential clients the chance to see more of you on a non-business platform. Try placing social media icons in the footer, on the sidebar in your blog, on every blog post for sharing, on the top right corner of the site, in the menu of your website, and on the contact page.
You want your visitors to know you have social media right away, so having it easily accessed is important.
3. A Call to Action
This is a biggie. You want your visitors to have a clear idea of what exactly it is that you want them to do next. A call to action is exactly what it says – it’s an action you want your visitors to take. If you’re selling something, then the call to action would be something like ‘click the add-to basket’ button, or if you’re selling a service, say something along the lines of ‘subscribe to my newsletter by clicking here’, and so forth.
Whatever your call to action is, it needs to be displayed in a non-obtrusive way, yet clearly enough so they don’t have to look around for it. Consider using a high-impact button that states your call to action after your text explaining why they should click, an email sign-up form, or a website banner that explains your call to action in the clearest and most attractive way.
